Verses including the word Ancestors
Were ye witnesses when death appeared before Jacob? Behold, he said to his sons: "What will ye worship after me?" They said: "We shall worship Thy Allah and the Allah of thy fathers, of Abraham, Isma'il and Isaac,- the one (True) Allah.To Him we bow (in Islam)." (Surah Al-Baqara, 133)
When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah hath revealed:" They say: "Nay! we shall follow the ways of our fathers." What! even though their fathers Were void of wisdom and guidance? (Surah Al-Baqara, 170)
So when ye have accomplished your holy rites, celebrate the praises of Allah, as ye used to celebrate the praises of your fathers,- yea, with far more Heart and soul.There are men who say: "Our Lord! Give us (Thy bounties) in this world!" but they will have no portion in the Hereafter. (Surah Al-Baqara, 200)
When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed; come to the Messenger.: They say: "Enough for us are the ways we found our fathers following." what! even though their fathers were void of knowledge and guidance? (Surah Al-Maida, 104)
No just estimate of Allah do they make when they say: "Nothing doth Allah send down to man (by way of revelation)" Say: "Who then sent down the Book which Moses brought?- a light and guidance to man: But ye make it into (separate) sheets for show, while ye conceal much (of its contents): therein were ye taught that which ye knew not- neither ye nor your fathers." Say: "(Allah) (sent it down)": Then leave them to plunge in vain discourse and trifling. (Surah Al-Anam, 91)
Those who give partners (to Allah.will say: "If Allah had wished, we should not have given partners to Him nor would our fathers; nor should we have had any taboos." So did their ancestors argue falsely, until they tasted of Our wrath.Say: "Have ye any (certain) knowledge? If so, produce it before us.Ye follow nothing but conjecture: ye do nothing but lie." (Surah Al-Anam, 148)
When they do aught that is shameful, they say: "We found our fathers doing so"; and "(Allah) commanded us thus": Say: "Nay, Allah never commands what is shameful: do ye say of Allah what ye know not?" (Surah Al-Araf, 28)
They said: "Comest thou to us, that we may worship Allah alone, and give up the cult of our fathers? bring us what thou threatenest us with, if so be that thou tellest the truth!" (Surah Al-Araf, 70)
He said: "Punishment and wrath have already come upon you from your Lord: dispute ye with me over names which ye have devised - ye and your fathers,- without authority from Allah.then wait: I am amongst you, also waiting." (Surah Al-Araf, 71)
Then We changed their suffering into prosperity, until they grew and multiplied, and began to say: "Our fathers (too) were touched by suffering and affluence" Behold! We called them to account of a sudden, while they realised not (their peril). (Surah Al-Araf, 95)
Or lest ye should say: "Our fathers before us may have taken false gods, but we are (their) descendants after them: wilt Thou then destroy us because of the deeds of men who were futile?" (Surah Al-Araf, 173)
They said: "Hast thou come to us to turn us away from the ways we found our fathers following,- in order that thou and thy brother may have greatness in the land? But not we shall believe in you!" (Surah Yunus, 78)
They said: "O Salih! thou hast been of us! a centre of our hopes hitherto! dost thou (now) forbid us the worship of what our fathers worshipped? But we are really in suspicious (disquieting) doubt as to that to which thou invitest us." (Surah Hud, 62)
They said: "O Shu'aib! Does thy (religion of) prayer command thee that we leave off the worship which our fathers practised, or that we leave off doing what we like with our property? truly, thou art the one that forbeareth with faults and is right- minded!" (Surah Hud, 87)
Be not then in doubt as to what these men worship.They worship nothing but what their fathers worshipped before (them): but verily We shall pay them back (in full) their portion without (the least) abatement. (Surah Hud, 109)
"Thus will thy Lord choose thee and teach thee the interpretation of stories (and events) and perfect His favour to thee and to the posterity of Jacob - even as He perfected it to thy fathers Abraham and Isaac aforetime! for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom." (Surah Yusuf, 6)
"And I follow the ways of my fathers,- Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and never could we attribute any partners whatever to Allah.that (comes) of the grace of Allah to us and to mankind: yet most men are not grateful. (Surah Yusuf, 38)
"If not Him, ye worship nothing but names which ye have named,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah hath sent down no authority: the command is for none but Allah.He hath commanded that ye worship none but Him: that is the right religion, but most men understand not (Surah Yusuf, 40)
The worshippers of false gods say: "If Allah had so willed, we should not have worshipped aught but Him - neither we nor our fathers,- nor should we have prescribed prohibitions other than His." So did those who went before them (Surah An-Nahl, 35)
No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers.It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood! (Surah Al-Kahf, 5)
Nay, We gave the good things of this life to these men and their fathers until the period grew long for them; See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they who will win? (Surah Al-Anbiya, 44)
They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." (Surah Al-Anbiya, 53)
He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." (Surah Al-Anbiya, 54)
And strive in His cause as ye ought to strive, (with sincerity and under discipline).He has chosen you, and has imposed no difficulties on you in religion; it is the cult of your father Abraham.It is He Who has named you Muslims, both before and in this (Revelation); that the Messenger may be a witness for you, and ye be witnesses for mankind! So establish regular Prayer, give regular Charity, and hold fast to Allah.He is your Protector - the Best to protect and the Best to help! (Surah Al-Hajj, 78)
The chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: his wish is to assert his superiority over you: if Allah had wished (to send messengers), He could have sent down angels; never did we hear such a thing (as he says), among our ancestors of old." (Surah Al-Muminun, 24)
Do they not ponder over the Word (of Allah., or has anything (new) come to them that did not come to their fathers of old? (Surah Al-Muminun, 68)
"Such things have been promised to us and to our fathers before! they are nothing but tales of the ancients!" (Surah Al-Muminun, 83)
They will say: "Glory to Thee! not meet was it for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee: But Thou didst bestow, on them and their fathers, good things (in life), until they forgot the Message: for they were a people (worthless and) lost." (Surah Al-Furqan, 18)
(Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning!" (Surah Ash-Shuara, 26)
They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." (Surah Ash-Shuara, 74)

When Moses came to them with Our clear signs, they said: "This is nothing but sorcery faked up: never did we head the like among our fathers of old!" (Surah Al-Qasas, 36)
When they are told to follow the (Revelation) that Allah has sent down, they say: "Nay, we shall follow the ways that we found our fathers (following). "What! even if it is Satan beckoning them to the Penalty of the (Blazing) Fire? (Surah Luqman, 21)
"What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again) (Surah As-Saffat, 16)
"And also our fathers of old?" (Surah As-Saffat, 17)
Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; (Surah As-Saffat, 69)
"(Allah), your Lord and Cherisher and the Lord and Cherisher of your fathers of old?" (Surah As-Saffat, 126)
Nay! they say: "We found our fathers following a certain religion, and we do guide ourselves by their footsteps." (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 22)
Just in the same way, whenever We sent a Warner before thee to any people, the wealthy ones among them said: "We found our fathers following a certain religion, and we will certainly follow in their footsteps." (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 23)
He said: "What! Even if I brought you better guidance than that which ye found your fathers following?" They said: "For us, we deny that ye (prophets) are sent (on a mission at all)." (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 24)
Yea, I have given the good things of this life to these (men) and their fathers, until the Truth has come to them, and an apostle making things clear. (Surah Az-Zukhruf, 29)
There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. (Surah Ad-Dukhan, 8)
"Then bring (back) our forefathers, if what ye say is true!" (Surah Ad-Dukhan, 36)
And when Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them their argument is nothing but this: They say, "Bring (back) our forefathers, if what ye say is true!" (Surah Al-Jathiyya, 25)
These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! (Surah An-Najm, 23)
And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- (Surah Al-Waqia, 47)
"(We) and our fathers of old?" (Surah Al-Waqia, 48)
